The name “Rann” comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning “desert”. The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit word Irina attested in the Rig-Veda and Mahabharata. Rann Utsav is a cultural extravaganza organized at different locations every year within Kutch in Gujarat.  White expanse of serene sand under the full bloom of the moon – believe us, it gets more romantic than words.

Itinerary

Day 1: BY AIR – ARRIVE AHMEDABAD -8th February 2017

We will begin our journey from Delhi Airport on 8th February, you will be met by your Tour Manager at the airport.  Arrive Ahmedabad and transfer to the hotel, take good rest, and later we proceed for city tour. Ahmedabad is Located on the banks of the river Sabarmati; the city was founded by Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1411. Today it is one of the fastest growing cities of India and is an immense repository of tradition, history & culture. Its famous walled area is one of the finest examples of community living & the city thrived as the textile capital & was nicknamed “Manchester of the East’ in 1888. This multicultural city is home to some of the finest Indo-Saracenic mosques & Jain temple.

We will visit Gandhi Ashram & Akshardham temple and  witness the very beautiful Light and Sound show

Day 02: AHMEDABAD TO PATAN, PATAN TO MODHERA, MODHERA TO BHUJ – 9th February 2017

After breakfast today we will drive to Bhuj on our way to Bhuj we will also visit Patan and Modhera. Patola Weaving at Patan–  We are taking you here to explore Patola weaving,  Gujarat has a rich and ancient heritage in fine textiles. Patola from the area of Patan in the North Gujarat region glorifies this heritage. It has unique gem like qualities – gorgeous colours, designs and durability. Its appearance lures the connoisseur of fine textiles.

Also visit Rani ki Vav – stepwell in Patan – The Rani ki Vav, a step well in Patan is an excellent example of subterranean architecture in Gujarat and has steps that lead down to the water level. The Rani ki Vav was built by Rani Udayamti of the Solanki dynasty. This Vav represents the finest of the Indian sculptures and architecture and forms the link between a kunda and the classical step-well.

Later continue to drive to Bhuj enroute visiting Modhera.

Modhera: The Sun temple of Modhera is one of the finest examples of Indian architecture of its period. Built in 1026 A.D. the temple is dedicated to the Sun-God, Surya and stands high on a plinth overlooking a deep stone-steeped tank. Every inch of the edifice, both inside and outside is magnificently carved with Gods and Goddesses, birds, beasts and flowers. Sun Temple of Modhera was built by King Bhimdev I (1026-27).

Day 03: BHUJ To DHORDO (80 Kms)- 10th February 2017

Kutch is not just a desert, but a cultural celebration, Rann Utsav is a festival of Kutch. It is a Carnival of Music, Dance, ethnicity of White Rann and much more, the beauty of this place multiplies when you witness it under the full Moon. Kutch Rann Utsav is a shimmering landscape and feels like Heaven On Earth during Festival Time. In fact, spending the night on the startling white landscape that stretches into the horizon as far as the eyes can see is itself an experience of a lifetime .

Dhordo village is a last village in the area. Dhordo, has had approx 70 houses, having 450 odd population of communities of Mutva , Sheikh, and Harijan involved in doing the jobs of various handicrafts popularly well known as ‘Banni Handicrafts’ which have become famous world across. A very intricate and expensive embroideries and mud work are done here. Their craftsmanship and artistic works have such excellence that craftsmen/artists have been honoured by national awards.

Day 04: DHORDO -11th February 2017

After breakfast visit the villages of Kutch. Amidst the Desert land of infinite dimensions, are suspended, quaint little villages. These are the last villages on the India-Pakistan border. Here you will come across master craft people’ exposing their traditional art, turning our master pieces every day. Their ornaments, clothes, utensils, everything they use – will make you feel as if you have stepped into lifestyle museum leaving you spellbound. Visit the villages of Bhirandiyara for exquisite embroideries, colourful Mug Bhungas, Lippam Kam and Nirona village famous for Rogan art.

Day 05: BY ROAD (335 KMS /07 HRS) DHORDO TO RAJKOT- 12th February 2017

After lazy breakfast drive to Rajkot; arrive and transfer to your hotel.

Rajkot was the former capital of the princely state of Saurashtra. Rajkot was once a base for the Western States British government office and rapidly expanded into a prosperous, lively business centre, with an old city. This city is also associated with the Mahatma Gandhi, who lived here for several years. His father was the Dewan (Chief Minister) of Rajkot, once a small princely State.
